Reducing Waste

Pernod Ricard makes every effort to reduce atmospheric emissions caused by its operations. The Group is committed to limiting its harmful impact on the environment and improving its overall performance in environmental matters.

Reducing CO2 emissions

Pernod Ricard takes action to control CO2 emissions from its operations.
In 2006-2007, there was an 8.9% increase in the total volume distilled but CO2 emissions increased by only 1.8% thanks to our subsidiaries’ efforts to optimise their use of energy.

A pilot study of CO2 emissions from transportation (from the supply of raw materials to the delivery of finished products to Group customers) was carried out at three subsidiaries in 2006. This study led to the creation of a tool which will be sent out to all subsidiaries, helping them to evaluate their consumption and improve working practices.

Preserving the ozone layer

Gases used in refrigeration equipment (refrigerators, air conditioning units, etc.) may contain chlorine or fluorine, gases known to contribute to the destruction of the ozone layer.
Since 2005, all Pernod Ricard industrial refrigeration sites have been checked.
The survey concluded that:

  • waste emissions of chlorinated refrigeration gases remain very low,
  • most subsidiaries have plans to replace HCFC (hydrochlorofluorocarbon) gases by environmentally neutral HFCs (hydroflurocarbons).
